Love Utah Give Utah – March 30, 2017

​Mark your calendar – March 30, 2017, is Love Utah Give Utah day! This is an entire day of online giving to help support great non-profit organizations in Utah, such as Therapy Animals of Utah.

​If you’ve ever had a pet, you know that there are times when an animal’s unconditional love can comfort one like no person can. Our therapy animals have helped give patients (young and old alike) something to look forward to, have been the cause of a troubled teen’s first smile in a facility, helped youngsters overcome a fear of dogs, and have been just the encouragement that was needed for a person who’s been silent to speak again.

​Therapy Animals of Utah has been sharing the comfort, love, hope, and healing of the human-animal bond through training, service, education and research since 1997. Study after study documents the mental and physical benefits of animal-assisted activities and therapy. Last year our volunteer teams donated more than 8,300 hours of their time grooming and transporting their animals and visiting more than 57,000 people.

Our human-animal teams volunteer at hospitals, libraries, schools, transitional housing units for the chronically homeless, juvenile correction facilities, mental health facilities a detox center, medical rehabilitation centers, and senior care facilities. We train and evaluate more than 60 new volunteers every year. Because the need is so great, several of our teams volunteer at multiple facilities. Yet many facilities that request our services are placed on a waiting list because we don’t have enough teams to go around.

A donation to Therapy Animals of Utah will help us expand our outreach to recruit, train, and mentor more capable Pet Partner teams to volunteer at the ever-growing number of facilities that request our services.
